Sophic Portfolio Manager

The Sophic Portfolio Manager (SPM) was designed, configured in BioXM to provide the Office of the Director of NCI’s Center for Cancer Research (CCR) with up-to-date “Scientific Intelligence.” SPM provides linguistic text mining capabilities of lab annual reports (Word or PDF documents) and memos. This information integrates and graphically displays detailed lab research information in an easy to use, flexible heatmap. This BioXM image shows key words aligned with research projects with the capability click on each cell to drill down to detailed information. The system tracks cancer research progress by aligning lab annual reports with papers published by principle investigators and senior scientists for 270 individual labs, over 3,000 scientists conducting research on 160+ cancer disease types.

This Sophic Portfolio Manger image provides “Scientific Intelligence” to support oversight, reporting, budget and resource allocation and alignment of multi-lab collaborations. SPM supports decisions to change priorities, take advantage of new discoveries and respond to congressional oversight inquiries. The principle investigator in this image (Dr. George Washington) is conducting research in a remote lab in Cape Cod. His lab is researching ear cancer and the system shows the key words associated with this effort connected with Dr. Washington’s PubMed papers on this topic. The papers show progress and can be mined to find any genes or compounds discovered that may be in clinical trials.
